What People are Saying about "Time Ship"
"A riveting read that kept me on the edge of my seat and guessing 'till the very end! This book has it all - mystery, romance, the past and the future. With brilliant characters and an attention to detail that paints wonderful pictures in the minds eye. It's funny, exciting and extremely clever. I was not able to put this book down, I was constantly eager to see what was coming next. It's a brilliantly written book that left me feeling like I'd been on an adventure."
"I kept wondering how anyone could possibly have thought of this and then woven the story to such an extent that you actually believed that lots of this was fact and not a story at all! The ending was phenomenal and showed a more than fertile imagination. I laughed out loud! The books were read first by my husband who muttered every so often 'This guy is amazing. His writing is so clear, and his imagination is(literally) out of this world.' "
" A brilliant concept - science put across in an easily understandable way and a thrilling read. Packed with thrills, spills (literally!), adventure, history, romance, thought provoking scientific possibilities of time travel and epidemiology. This book crosses so many genres yet contains plenty of fun and humour. A must buy. "

I first have to commend the author for not having his US characters speak in old English.First time I've ever seen it done correctly.
Hundreds of fiction books written by UK writers have them writing scenes set in the US with all of their Americans speaking like they're all from England.
This author didn't do that. Good!
As for the book itself...
I was confused until nearly halfway through.
Yes, I ultimately realized the two alternating stories would combine, but it took a very long time to "get it." The story set in 1699, seemed much more like a long prologue.
The present day tale bored me however, due to the dragged-out science behind the phenomenon regarding four combined hurricanes.
While somewhat entertaining, many paragraphs were unnecessary because they had useless information.
How the scientist used to have a thing for the hurricane hunter and the lengthy explanation about the teleportation could have been tightened up and not expanded on so much. I was wondering when the time travel love story would start happening....I kept waiting and waiting.
Well, I THINK it started finally, but not until book is just about over. I can only surmise at this point, the captain and Sally will be the love story? Who knows, we never got there.
You hear about the pirates in 2014, but nothing about the hurricane hunter plane going back to 1699.
While not the book for me, I do wish Sally and the captain luck (without hopping lice or the plague). Who knows, maybe Kate will find a knight-in-shining pirate since her husband is more than 300 years in the future.
This may have been more interesting condensed, with less science and more to the point, getting to the time travel, love story and conclusion, all in one book and not abruptly ending when it did.

Time Ship Book One A Time Travel Romantic Adventure edition by Ian CP Irvine Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
The story fascinated me in every way, from the current time to the time of long ago. I was disappointed this was so short! You have me captivated from the very beginning of the story, what an imagination! To think that this may be possible to travel in time, and face the fears of not understanding a language or understanding the material changes on this earth, what an awesome way to portray what "could be possible!
I honestly don't know where all the five star ratings come from. The story is all over the place. None of the characters are likable and are so one dimensional. Even the cover isn't good.
So we learn more about pirates than the so called time travel. The info about the storm is stuff kids learn in school and then the non-ending end made me dislike the "amazing, handsome strong Captain Rob" even more as we learn he's nothing more than a flea invested stinking filthy rotten toothed low life who finds himself suddenly brought into the modern world.
I skipped from chapter 17-the end as the story was just downright boring. Many scenes were repeated to obviously just fill pages.
It was unconvincing and worth what you pay for it; ZERO
Don't waste your time on this drivel.
How to rate half a book? Do I give it three stars because I enjoyed what there was of it, or do I go with two stars because it irked me exceedingly that it was only half the story. Labelling it as book one is unfair because it is only book one half. You have to get the second book to finish the story.
I have since gone back and read the description of the book and the last section does suggest that you get both books.
So, is this a new marketing ploy - to sell one story in two books?
I'll give it a three star review at this time and, if I read book two, I can update my rating then.
Excellent book. I previously read Irvine's Messiah Conspiracy and thought it was very good. Then I got Part 1 of Time Ship for free. I thought by looking at the cover art that this would be a hokey story, but it was really very good. Irvine is a good writer. He has made my reading list. I'll definitely be reading more of his books.
This book is one time travelling thrill throughout. I certainly loved the entire idea of time travel. I believe in it- why not? I am sure after this (and book # 2's reading) I will be doing more research on the Manhattan Project. I was totally enthralled about the life of pirates and privateers. I Always have been. Though we tend to be fantastical about their seafaring Kudos to the author for a well written and researched book! And in the pirates' lives, it must a bleak and dangerous time in history. Day to day living of not knowing...... Great read!
I really enjoyed the theme of this book. The only (big to me) drawback was that you have to buy book 2 to know how it ends. It was really one book divided into two. Some books that are books 1, 2, 3, etc., at least have an ending you can live with. The other books stand alone with their own story but references the previous books. Stopping in the middle of the story like this book did made me feel cheated. Book one and two combined were a good story. It was a bit predictable and bland but still enjoyable. It would have been nice to see the author delve deeper into each of the main characters' lives and personalities.
This author graciously warned that th book is only half the story. I appreciate it very much.
The Caribban pirates in modern times - that was most entertaining to read.
But th book relly needs a good editor to get it running. There are a lot of repetions, again and again, especially at the beginning. Like the author needed to get into the story and then forgot to cut th useless pages.
And it definitely needs proofreading. Thre are double words and grammar errors lft from rvising or some such thing. For mthat means, the author was careless in his work
